The market for freelance data work is huge Experfy estimates that 20% of the big data services in demand today can be handled by short-term, freelance work, and points to a recent Wikibon report that caps that overall market at $11.4 billion. You dont need to be a data scientist to do that math and project a market of $2.28 billion in potentially short-term data work available today, a number Singh expects to grow to $4 billion in the next three years.
Experfy works by putting would-be freelancers through a rigorous screening process to qualify as a data expert on its platform. Users must log in through their LinkedIn accounts and set their different areas of strength, such as economic modeling or machine learning. The applicant then lists their proficiencies with different tools such as Tableaus software and can include a video pitch.
